Key takeaways for conclusions

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

The historic European Development Days 2022 came to an end,

and I think we can all agree that we have some pretty LOUD conversations

and CLEAR calls to action for each one of us.

We had some really good insights from people with solutions and

people who care like the resolutions from youth.

Reseting the models

The Global Gateway which is Europe's strategy to use linkages in

transport, digital ad energy to advance solutions in critical sectors

like health and education, was a key talking point.

From the discussions held over the last two days, we have learned that

the partnerships that Europe seeks with Africa, Asia and the Americas

must be respond and align with the needs of our partners.

While it may be that we live in an age where there is an app for

everything one needs, technology may not be able to provide the most

important ingredient needed to drive sustainable development

Youth consultations , about 90 youth groups over the week, they

participated in the online event last week, and some presented to UN

and EC reps.

On Partnerships : What we’ve seen is that partner countries want to be

true partnerships.

“use the potential that exists and harness the strength of everyone”

Partnerships are not about one size fits all, you must respond to the

needs of the partner

Technology isn’t going to solve all out problems, political action is

going to be needed.

The Global Gateway offers a chance to reset the models, to be more

person-centred, from technology, to climate, to health,to put the human

at the centre.

Ensure investment is aligned with the country strategy.

Thinking bigger, acting together creating more of a – more joined up to

use what we have more better and efficiently.

Governance and political system behind it: money should be spend on

strengthening governance – it underpins global gateway – can’t see

investment and development in isolation from governance.

Between 2021 and 2027, the EU will mobilise up to EUR 300 billion of

investments to progress SDGs to boost smart, clean and secure links in

digital, energy and transport sectors and to strengthen health,

education and research systems across the world via Global gateway.

Investment must be made in non-financial areas like governance and green

infrastructure. The system of pursuing financial gain at all costs is

simply not sustainable.

And lastly, but perhaps quite importantly, it is important to

incorporate the interests of local communities in whatever solutions we

propose.
